Black Amethyst Elephant Depression Glass Ashtray

SOLD Black Amethyst Elephant Ashtray by L.E. Smith or Greensburg.

Beautiful ashtray in pressed opaque glass with detailed elephant.

This ashtray dates from the depression years, at least 60 years old.

It is in great condition with one minute chigger (invisible, can be felt) on sharp edge of elephant platform.  Appears unused.  Only signs of age is a ring of bottom wear on it's seat and solidly encrusted dust in the pattern crevaces when found (dust crust has been removed) .  Bottom wear accumulates naturally over the years.

Made by L.E. Smith, a prolific American glassmaker in business from the early to mid 20th century. When held to the light, the color shows dark amethyst.

Wide rests, large enough for cigars.  Half inch deep ash receiving well encircling elephant.  Round ashtray measures 6.5" at widest, girth of 19", 3.5" tall.
