SOLD 1920s - 1930s match stick box holder bar ashtray.

This very old chunky colorless glass ashtray and matchbox holder was made with manganese, a mineral that glows under blacklight (image 3).
It is not vaseline glass, it is better known as "sun purple" glass.  Old glass with manganese will turn light to medium purple if left exposed to light over long periods of time.  This honky tonk ashtray has barely seen the light of day!  It is still colorless (favored by collectors of this type antique glass who believe that  is "damaged" if a strong purple color develops).
Features a handy block of glass to hold a match stick box.  When the box is placed on the glass block, the box jacket slides down to reveal matchstick heads.
In amazingly well-preserved condition. The only minute and few chiggers are around the base. Hidden near one beveled corner of the match box holder there is a very shallow small sliver chip.  Very, very good condition for glass of this age.  Glass has inner "wavy lines" and a few random tiny bubbles, expected on this type of glass. Base has heavy bottom-wear, also expected from age.
It is mold pressed with bevels on the invisible mold lines on the base at top of box block.  Upper rim is fire smoothed.  Base was polished smooth in area's to produced a fine flat seat.
Heavy, thick, clear solid glass weighs 1.5 lbs.  Measures 5.5" long, 4 1/8" at widest, 2 1/8" tall.  Perfect for any honky tonk!
