Alfredo Barbini Iridescent Art Glass Cigar Bowl Ashtray

SOLD Mesmerizing fumed iridescent trefoil cased glass from 1950s Italy.

The exotic finish on the ashtray is rarely found today.  In Italy, it is called "fumed iridescent" or "Iridato".   It is accomplished by treating the hot glass with metal chlorides.

An aurora effect, the colors undulate and change according to it's position in the light. Reflective colors are blue, green and pinkish lavendar.  Cased glass, inner is aqua green, outer is a very light lavender.

Deep bowl, made for cigars.  Will accomodate smaller sized smokes. Measures 6" long on each side, 2.5" tall and weighs 3 lbs.  Hand-blown.

This was made in 1950's Italy by Alfredo Barbini for Weil Ceramics and Glass.  It glows deep yellow under blacklight due to the presence of Manganese, still used by the Italians in the 1950s. Although this ashtray does not have the label, we had another with a label that read "Venetian, Made by Alfredo Barbini, for Weil Cermaics & Glass, Murano".

In good condition.  There is a tiny thin nick on the rim that cannot be polished out due to the finish.  The exterior finish is in excellent condition.  The interior finish is in good condition with a bit of wear in the center of the bowl where smokes have been crushed.  The wear is very light and can only be seen if studied closely, the miniscule wear will not show up in images. Polished flat base has expected bottom-wear.

A perfect place to put your fancy butts.  Doubles as an incense, candy/snack bowl and a candleholder (remove any metal from candle before using in old glass).  Image #6 shows a new Fenton iridescent hummingbird landing in the center of the bowl.  It is not included, we just couldn't resist taking the image.
