Higgins Cigar Ashtray Signed

SOLD  Famous maker Higgins Art Glass starburst.

Higgins was popular among the ultra fab in the late 1950s to early 1960s.  Higgins is no longer in business today but their designs are still very popular. Higgins made most of their art glass with the "bent glass" technique.  This ashtray is made of a thick solid sheet of light steal blue glass that was pressed over a mold and "bent" into shape. The mauve colored enamel decor was hand applied on the surface and then covered with another layer of glass, protecting the enamel from wear. There are intentional "blisters" (odd shaped bubbles) contributing to the design between the layers. The gold painted ray decor is hand applied on the surface of the glass.  It is signed "Higgins". In excellent condition.  Gold is perfect.  HAND WASH only, no chemicals. Two rests will accommodate cigars or smaller.  Beautiful, fun conversation piece. Measures 7 3/8" x 7 3/8", 1" deep.
