Art Nouveau overlay cut crystal ashtray

Elegant high-end Art Nouveau period overlay crystal. SOLD

Big, handsome cigar-sized ashtray hand-cut in the early 1900s to 1940s.  Probably of Bohemian (French) origin.

Made of heavy lead crystal overlaid with dark emerald green crystal, then hand-cut back to clear.

Naturalist yet geometric decor indicates the transition between Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, estimated circa 1900-1940.  See image 4, the decor forms a daisy-like flower or starburst when viewed from the base.

Very heavy, weighs 4.2 lbs.  Measures 7.5" round and 2" tall.  There are four cigar-sized tapered rests on the flat 1.25" wide rim.

In excellent condition.  Only one heavy spot of bottom-wear visible (caused by years of surface contact on the seat of the ashtray).  The original owner must have protected the base, and the surface the ashtray sat on, with some kind of applied bumpers, like felt circles.  Surface protection is necessary especially with heavy objects like this.

Beautiful...yet manly.  Top-of-the-line gift for the elegant cigar smoker.
