Extreme detail of the White House, Mount Vernon, Washington Monument and the Capitol.

Fascinating American government memorabilia cigar ashtray with top-secret compartment.
This oddity was made in Japan.  It is marked on the base 'Made in Japan."  Note the period at the end of the mark.  All image captions end with a period, which we think is odd.  For instance, beneath the Washington Monument cigar rest is 'Washington Monument.' Was there a time when we put periods at the end of image titles?  If so, it would help date this piece.  We don't know, but it's very interesting.  Could be just a language gap since it was made in Japan, but that would also mean the amazingly detailed artwork was designed there too.
The artwork is fabulous.  The images compel a closer look, and interesting details are found deep in the scenes.  One of the interesting things we've noticed is the little huts on the plains behind the Washington Monument.  Early American? Super nice detail in a deep 3-dimensional scene. See image 3 of the Mt. Vernon Mansion for a good look at the extreme detail.
To add to all its glory, this unique antique ashtray has a flip open compartment.  The other side of the lid has serrated marks, a striker surface for stick matches.  It measures 2.25" long, 1.75" wide and 1" deep.  The compartment features 'The White House.' and is in original condition with even age-patina.  The exterior of the ashtray is also in great condition, with even-age patina, but it has been exposed to air and elements, the original brightness had dulled, and it is not as bright as the interior of the compartment.  Slight wear can be seen on 'The Capitol.' as it is the ash bowl.  We used a thin chopstick to remove ages of grime that collected in the deep mold lines of the pillars.  Overall condition is really, really good for an of this age and material.  No damage.
Made of a heavy metal pressed thin. There is no plating.  The mold was hand-made with tell-tell signs everywhere.  The artwork is top-of-the-line for an ashtray.  Rimmed with Rococo style roses popular in the 18th century.  We can't tell you the exact age of this ashtray, only that it is old in design and make.
Measures 6 1/8" long, 4" at widest and 1/2" tall.  Weighs just under 1/2 lb.
