Murano blown bullicante art glass cigar ashtray in emerald

Stunningly beautiful, yet manly, hand blown ashtray bowl.

High quality emerald green glass hand blown with trapped stylized bubbles.

Big, thick walled, deep and heavy.  Won't get bumped around.  Deep bowl with inward rim keeps the mess within where it belongs.  Big, fat, wide rests accomodate all sizes of smokes and are just right for cigars.  A perfect ashtray.

It is in excellent condition with a band of bottom-wear on the base.  Bottom-wear occurs from years and years of surface contact and is not considered damage on vintage/antique items.  The amount of bottom-wear often helps date the item.  Bottom-wear on glass does not occur easily, it takes many years to form a complete circle.  This bowl's bottom-wear has a full band which helps us date it to the 1960s or earlier.

This form was popular in the late 1940s through to the late 1970s.  Blenko Art Glass made ashtrays that look like this one, and it might be early Blenko, but the quality of the glass and decor points to either Murano (Italian) or English (Whitefriars).  Unsure of the maker, but certain this was made by a skilled glass artist.  The controlled bubbles trapped within the glass form a semi-spiral.  All made by hand.  Soft pontil blob on inverted base from the blower's tool.

Can be used as a catch-all, flower vase or candleholder when not in ash service.  Remember to remove metal parts from contemporary candles before using in vintage or antique glass.
