A scarce elliptical form ashtray in the 'Franco Pozzi' Italian style. The modernists of the early 1960s incorporated Atomic age decor with an ultra mod flair and sense of perfect utilitarian design.
This medium-size perfectly designed ashtray provides a handle that doubles as a cigar rest, plus two cigarette or smaller rests. The rests were designed at the perfect angle for resting smokes. The 'handle' has a ball tip for easy gripping. Made of solid, brilliantly clear, molded crystal. Finished with heat polishing, softening the edges and eliminating mold lines. Designed and made in the days when quality and form function was important.
The ellipse effect can be seen best in image 2 below. Shapes seen in universe reflected the growing interest in outer-space during the 1950s/1960s.
Measures 4½" round and just over 6" long from handle tip to to end of bowl. Weighs 1 lb. In great condition with no chips, no cracks, no chiggers. The glass is clear and brilliant. On the base, were it rubs against a surface, there are 'bottom-wear' scratches which occur naturally over the years. The bottom-wear is light. |
