Alessandro Guerriero

  Alessandro Guerriero

Born 1943. Works as an architect and designer in Milan.

Alchimia is the major element in Alessandro Guerriero’s biography. This projekt was founded in 1976 by Guerriero and his sister, Adriana. They were joined later by Alessandro Mendini and Girogrio Gregori. The international importance of Alchimia is documented in international projects and exhibitions, such as at the Biennale in Venice, the documenta in Kassel, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Milan Trade Fair as well as in countless publications. You can learn something about the founders of Alchimia by looking at their work. Apart from this, there is very little information – for example photographs or biographical material – available. Guerriero believes that his drawings are sufficient documentation. They are part of a program in which the designers at Alchimia have rediscovered the colorful ›soul‹ of design in a gray, apocalyptic world. In the creative kitchen that is Alchimia, fantasy, diversity and the inexhaustible fund of human culture are combined and re-combined like pieces of glass in a kaleidoscope. Guerriero’s glass in the collection 1994 is a mosaic of form and color. His limited glass combines these elements into a self-portrait, about which Guerriero, who is never lost for a joke, asks, “Can you find Alchimia’s smile?”
