SOLD This stunning glass art ashtray is signed by the artist. It appears to read 'S Frunkie'. The signature is hand-etched, and the lettering is not real clear. A 'S Frunkie' does not appear as an artist on the internet. We could be wrong about S. Frunkie. Look closely at the signature in image 5.
Well-executed swirling striations of colored glass encased between a layer of grass green and a layer of colorless glass. Crystal quality glass. Difficult decor to accomplish. Since 'work of art' ashtrays haven't been made for years, we suspect the artist made this unique asthray sometime between the 1960s and 1980s.
The artist understood the functionality of a good ashtray and executed it well. Three rests are large and level and will balance your smoke as they should. The bowl is deep, necessary to trap and hold the butts and ashes. The upper rim is inwardly folded over providing a lip that further entraps the light-as-air ashes. It's a perfect ashtray for small cigars, cigarettes and smaller smokes.
Handy object of art. Looks beautiful when not in ash service and functions well when in service. Measures 4½" at widest and 2" at tallest. Weighs 1 lb. Comfortably fits in the palm of hand, great for cocktail party guests. |
