Mid Century Modern Art Glass Hand Formed Ashtray

Organic form art glass ashtray with deep well and three long and level rests accomodates cigars, cigarettes, incense, etc. Weighs 4½ lbs.  Big and beautiful.  Hand-formed furnace glass with a royal blue rim.  The rim is 'turned in' creating an overhanging ridge that helps keep the wind out and the debris in.  The rests are level and long.  Perfect for floating cigars (see image 8).  Can be used as a candle holder or catch-all when not in ash service. Measures 7½" at widest, 3" tall.  Furnace worked hot glass with numerous unintentional very tiny trapped bubbles and one intentional trapped bubble directly in the center of the seat (see image 6).  The seat has heavy bottom-wear caused by years and years of surface contact.  No chips or cracks or liquid stains. 'Knobby' glass is a speciality of Whitefriars and Liskeard, both glass houses in England no longer in business.  This stunning art glass ashtray probably wasn't made by either company.  Liskeard is usually signed, and the exact form here is not found in the Whitefriars old catalogs.  We are unsure of the maker.  Estimated circa 1970s.
