Heinrich Hoffmann Art Deco Smoked Jewel Ashtray

Extremely special 1930s art deco hand-cut smoke black glass jewel ashtray.

Very rare find. Awesome art deco personal-sized ashtray. Measures 4″ wide on three sides and 1″ tall. Fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. Designed by Heinrich Hoffmann, a mould-maker and proprietor of a bead shop in Paris in the 1920s. During this time he met a gentlemen named Rene Lalique (today Lalique's art glass sells at the extreme high-end). Hoffmann's association with Lalique influenced his work.

Rarely found with Bohemian label, this fabulous little ashtray actually has two interesting labels. The Bohemian (German) glass label is an early label and put there by the glass house. The silver label on the base is from a 1940s pastry and cake shop located in Italy! The M. Ansalone “paticceria” applied their label to this ashtray which was used in the cafe.

This beautiful relic is made of solid smoke black, fine quality colored glass with an angular flat-plain art deco cutting. It was produced in the late 1920s to mid 1930s. Some of Hoffmann's work is signed with a moulded open-winged butterfly logo. This piece is hand-cut and does not have a maker's mark. It is positively identified as a Heinrich Hoffmann.

Items shown in the Big Ashtray Museum are not for sale. Big Ashtray offers a large selection of antique, vintage and retro art ashtrays, plus modern-made ashtrays, for sale in the Big Ashtray shop. Click here to view available items…
