1940s-1950s modernist cigar-sized ashtray in soft, smooth porcelain with creamy white and creamy burgundy glaze.
Hyalyn Porcelain was founded by Leslie Moody in 1947 in Hickory, North Carolina. Until the mid 1970s, Hyalyn pieces were high-fired with a white clay body. They often show the influence of Charles and Ray Eames and other designers of the Mid-Century Modern period. The factory was closed in 1996.
Measures 9″ square and 1.5″ tall. Made in the late 1940s – early 1950s. Marked on cork, “hyalyn porcelain, USA, 617”.
