Description
Vintage MGM Studios pewter ashtray with iconic lion head.
Relic from MGM Studios circa 1930’s to 1950’s. Made of thick solid pewter, no plating. The pewter has a nice solid over-all patina.
The lion head protrudes well into the ashtray in 3-D. Very detailed. Serves as an ash roller and snuffer.
The pewter is not signed. It was probably made in the U.S.A.. Perhaps pre-WWII. After WWII ended, countries were required to mark metal-ware with the origin.
Measures 6½” round with 6 cigarette size cradle rests. It is in vintage pewter condition with some evidence of atmosphere corrosion in the form of tiny white dots, look closely at the images. No dents or damage. Had very little to no use.
Back in the day when everyone smoked, an ashtray like this would probably be found on every desk and in every waiting room in the studio. Great for the smoking vintage MGM collector!
