Description
This big old relic weighs 5.5 lbs. Beautiful, thick, dark ocean blue glass lights up in a very bright glowing greenish yellow under blacklight.
The extreme brightness of the green glow under blacklight indicates that uranium was used in the glass recipe. Glassmakers used Uranium on this continent and in Europe from the mid 1600s up through the 1920s and again in the 1950s to present. Uranium was confiscated during World War II, hence the lack of production during that period.
A full rigged ship, usually referred to as a “frigate” is a sailing vessel with three or more masts. The ship represented here appears to be from the 18th or early 19th century. It is marked by maker or artist “JC” (or perhaps it is the name of the ship depicted). We were unable to locate information on the mark. We do believe this ashtray is at least 80 years old, perhaps much older. Measures 8″ wide, 2″ tall.
