Description
Vintage smoke dispenser with hand-carved dog.
Cedar bookshelf cabinet with a dog inside that delivers your smoke to the tune of ‘Smoke Gets in Your Eyes’.
Unique vintage craft distributed was by a company called ‘Michele International’ out of Norwalk Connecticut. No information about the company is available today. Circa estimated 1960s.
It’s hand-made and hand-painted. The interior is lined with non-varnished cedar, the exterior is varnished. The front flap (shown closed) opens to receive a batch of cigarette or small size smokes. Pressing the button begins the music and a hand-carved Doberman type dog slowly rises up through the back flap with your smoke, then returns inside as the back flap closes. Charming as can be.
In great shape with all original parts. Some light dings to the wood, barely visible. The ‘button’ which starts music box and smoke delivery process is a bit sticky. It may take a couple of presses to get it going but it always works fine once the connection is made.
The distributor label is still attached to the base near the music box winder. Rarely seen (we’ve never run across another) — very unique. Measures 5″ wide, 4½” deep and 4.75″ tall.
