Description
Mod Japanese Murano export glass from the 1980’s.
This bright orange sparkling ashtray is an example Japanese Murano export glass. It is not Murano glass, it is the less expensive alternative offered in the 1980’s.
In the 1980’s Japan was the major exporter of electronics to the US. Before that, dating back to WWII, the Japanese exported decorative trinkets all over the world. Japanese export products were of much better quality than the Chinese imports of today.
Murano (Italian) glass often features metallic inclusions cased within the glass producing very desirable decor objects. In this Japanese version of Murano, they have used plain everyday glitter in place of authentic metals. The shape is also reminiscent Murano glass favorites.
The bright orange color screams late 1970’s to early 1980’s. The old sticker is still in place on the base. The only legible word is ‘Japan’. It’s in like new condition. Measures 5.5″ round, 2.25″ tall.
