Description
Emerald Bullicante Art Glass Ashtray Hand-made in the 1950’s
This bullicante art glass ashtray features a spiral of intentional internal bubbles within thick, vintage quality, hand-made emerald glass encased in colorless glass. The Italian’s call this decor ‘Bullicante’. Many makers of the mid-20th century used the Bullicante method.
High quality glass. Made by Erickson Art Glass, established by Carl Erickson who immigrated to America from Sweden. Erickson’s glass making family immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900’s. In the 1940’s-1960’s, Erickson Glassworks in Bremen Ohio produced popular hand-formed glass with minute controlled bubbles. Erickson’s fine ‘control’ of the bubbles set him apart from other makers employing the same decor. Notice the expert swirl and graduated size of the bubbles in this ashtray. Erickson Glassworks closed in 1966.
Beautiful soft, flowing Swedish Modern styling. Heavy vintage bullicante art glass ashtray weighs 2 lbs and measures 6.5″ round, 2.25″ tall. Three hand-formed rests can accommodate cigars and smaller. Nice deep bowl with folded in rims keeps the mess inside. In perfect condition. Base has a polished seat ring with appropriate bottom-wear.
