Description
Corona King Size Ashtray with Pipe Knocker
Huge king size ashtray with pipe rests and knocker distributed by Continental Can Company, circa 1956. Image four shows the original box for the ashtray which revealed the information we needed to date it. The original box is not included.
The Corona King Size Ashtray is not a Continental Can design. They made jars and cans. But the Continental Can Company acquired Hazel Atlas Glass Co. in 1956, a company with hundreds and hundreds of house ware glass molds. This is evidence that Hazel Atlas is the original designer of this ashtray form. Continental Can closed the Hazel Atlas division in the early 1960’s and its the molds were then sold off to a number of different glass makers. At this time Fostoria Glass purchased the mold. Fostoria produced this ashtray, without the center pipe knocker, in the 1960’s to 1970’s.
This ashtray was made between 1956 and 1960 by Hazel Atlas, distributed under the name of Continental Can. In like-new condition.
Called the Corona King Size Ashtray because it’s huge and can accommodate whatever you’re smoking. Offers 4 dual size layered rests (see images) to fit cigars, cigarettes and smaller. The center is designed to rest pipes and knock or roll ashes from all types of smokes. Ridged edges allow for resting of paraphernalia and will balance incense sticks too. Something for everyone at the party!
Made with quality, heavy vintage glass in amber, called Granada Gold. The color lightens and darkens according to the lighting. Measures 10″ round, 1.5″ tall, weighs 3.10 lbs.
