Bohemian Art Deco design ashtray at it’s most elegant. Made of pure high quality crystal glass in the Alexandrite color.
Alexandrite glass, also known as Twilight or Dawn, is made with Neodymium, a rare earth binary compound, which magically alters the color of the glass under different lighting conditions. This fascinating art ashtray will appear pale to medium ice blue under fluorescent lighting and lovely shades of lavender under incandescent lights. The images show the ashtray in a variety of lighting conditions.
Designed by the infamous Bohemian glassmaker Heinrich Hoffmann. Hoffmann worked with Rene Lalique. Today Lalique’s art glass sells at the extreme high-end). Hoffmann’s association with Lalique influenced his work.
The ashtray was made by hand with heavy, high quality crystal. All edges, including those bordering the four large cradle rests, are beveled and polished. Deeply and expertly engraved on four sides are the signs of the Zodiac, in Art Deco style. Four cradle rests for cigars and smaller smokes.
Heavy Bohemian Art Deco ashtray weighs 2.8 lbs and measures 5.5″ square and 2.25″ tall. It is in perfect condition. Although it is 70 to 80 years old, the base is nearly free of bottom wear. Gorgeous and exceptional find!
