Retro Modern Pottery Ashtray in Lava Red with Gold Trim
Large retro modern pottery party ashtray. Measure 10.5″ round. Twenty five rests will accommodate the whole crowd and whatever they’re smoking. A wide gold rimmed rim helps stablize the smoke and provides room for paraphernalia.
This lava red ashtray from the 1950’s to early 1960’s was made in the U.S.A. (marked on the base) and discovered on the volcano covered isle of Kona in Hawaii. The glaze is in varying intensities of fire red and the gold trim makes it light up, reminiscent of hot flowing lava.
It is in excellent condition. Gold trim like new. Rarely used, if ever. Marked “877-859 Cal. Original USA. Made at the mid-century California pottery studios, probably in 1959.
