Gorgeous and luxurious ashtray with Steuben type smoke rests. Huge, weighs 4.6 lbs.
Every part of this luxurious ashtray is top-of-the-line. Steuben made very little colored glass, but they did produce some during the Mid-20th Century. The rests on this ashtray look exactly like Steuben rests. The exceptional quality of glass and decor points to a very fine maker.
No maker’s mark. This ashtray could also be of Italian or Scandinavian descent.
High clarity colorless crystal encases smoked green glass with expertly inserted tiny bubbles in between the glass layers. The color is a dark smoky avocado, almost black. Formed by hand. The color pontil mark on the seat is polished to a full moon. The Steuben-like rests of colorless crystal were each formed separately and applied to the bowl.
Big ashtray weighs 4.6 lbs and measures 8″ round, 2¾” deep. It is in excellent condition. The seat has an thin solid ring of bottom wear caused by years and years of surface contact. This is not considered damage, it naturally occurs on old glass, especially heavy glass.
Estimated circa 1960’s. Rests accommodate cigars and smaller smokes. Makes a lovely flower, candle or catch-all bowl when not in ash service. Perfect gift for the smoker who has everything.
