Cobalt blue glass blown into metal ashtray. Extremely unique, not often seen today. Estimated circa: Early 20th century to 1940. In excellent condition.
Antique hand blown caged glass ashtray. The artist blew the glass parison directly into the hand-formed metal cage coating the interior in a thick layer of rich cobalt blue glass and causing it to bulge out of the metal openings.
Caged glass ashtray. The ribs are hand-decorated by tool with notches. The S scroll decor on the rim and feet was also accomplished by hand. Three applied cigarette rests ring the top rim.
Caged glass cobalt blue ashtray. This exceptional decor method is a revival of Roman era glass, copied from excavated examples discovered in the 17th Century.

Antique Cobalt blue caged glass ashtray bowl or vase.

Beautiful deep cobalt blue glass blown into hand-formed metal. The artist blew the glass parison directly into the hand-formed metal cage coating the interior in a thick layer of rich cobalt blue glass and causing it to bulge out of the metal openings. This exceptional decor method is a revival of Roman era glass, copied from excavated examples discovered in the 17th Century.

The metal is solid, not plated. It is non-ferrous metal, a magnet will not stick to the metal. The ribs are hand-decorated by tool with notches. The S scroll decor on the rim and feet was also accomplished by hand. Stands on three applied feet. Three applied cigarette rests ring the top rim.

Large ash bowl measures 5″ tall, 5½” wide, 16¼” circumference, weighs 3 lbs. Made as an ashtray but can double as a vase or candle holder.

Extremely unique, not often seen today. Estimated circa: Early 20th century to 1940. In excellent condition.
