Description
Art glass ashtray signed and numbered. Hand-made with ribbon swirl internal decor.
The signature is hand-etched and appears to be German or French. We’ve searched high and low for the maker, but the signature is unreadable. The letters and numbers on the top left of image 2 are Clo or Glo and the number 39. The name of the maker appears to begin with “Elli…”, and we can make out a “V” in the center. We’re stumped. But the number 39 probably refers to the year 1939, or it could be a design number.
It’s a beautiful hand-made art glass ashtray in excellent condition. The base has medium bottom wear (see image 2) which is caused by many years of surface contact. Bottom-wear is not damage, it is expected on antique and vintage glassware and proves age.
Thick hand-worked glass weighs 1¾ lbs. Measures 5″ x “5 x 5″, stands 2” tall. Estimated circa 1939 to 1960.
Nice deep bowl to catch the debris. Three large rests great for all size smokes and pipe resting too.
