Beautiful big blue owl ashtray by Blenko Art Glass, circa 1970. Handmade, American art glass.
Ample ashtray for many cigars and multiple party-goers with room left over for candles and incense. Three feet on the base raise it slightly above the surface. The deep impressed owl art is on the base side of the glass. The bowl area is smooth with bumps protruding from the eyes and nose. These smooth ‘bumps’ are useful for pipe knocking and ember grinding.
Hand-made with beautiful dark blue vintage glass. The ashtray was pressed in the mold and heat-finished by hand. The flat 1 1/4″ wide ridge is slightly textured. The maker left signs of the tool used to form the 1/2″ deep rests in the valley of one of the three rests. The ‘maker’s miss’ can’t be seen in the images below, but can be seen when examined closely in person. The tool line marks are are not considered damage.
It’s in beautiful condition, but does have evidence of prior pipe tapping on the eyes and nose and more in the center of the ash well. These light, shallow scratches are very hard to see. The glass is still brilliant and shines like a jewel in the light.
Measures 9 3/4″ round, 2″ tall and weighs 5 3/4 lbs. Shown with 6″ cigar.
