Click here to view available items…Big vintage cigar ashtray in a color Blenko Art Glass produced for only two years; 1965 and 1966. It is a pre-designer form, designed before 1947 by Bill Blenko Sr. himself. Blenko continued to produce the form for many years. Because of its color we can be certain this big beautiful jewel was made in 1956 or 1966.
The ashtray form is shown in Blenko’s 1964 catalog as part number 452. It is easy to confuse this rare form with Blenko’s 508. The 508 ashtray is shown on the same catalog page as the 452. The difference between the two is the 508 was made with cased glass and the 452’s are usually one layer of glass, with a more fluid shape. Both items can have intentionally placed trapped bubbles.
This fantastic Blenko 452 in Peacock, with intentionally placed bubbles, is in perfect condition. It has the normal bottom-wear found on heavy, vintage glass items caused by years of surface contact. It measures 7″ round, 3.25″ tall and weighs a whopping 3.10 lbs.
The design is a perfect ashtray. Three large hand-tooled rests can accommodate cigars and smaller smokes. Extra deep bowl with curved in rims catches and keeps the smoking debris contained.
