Description
Blenko ashtray Bamboo design is rarely found today.
The Bamboo line was designed by Don Shepherd of Blenko Art Glass in 1978, who sadly passed on in 2002 in a car accident. At the time of his death he was working with Libbey Glass. More about Don Shephard…
This Bamboo ashtray is found in the original Blenko 1978 catalog as part number is 7814. The line came in a few different colors and in many forms. Blenko called this color ‘Tangerine’, a color often referred to as ‘Amberina’. To produce this color the glass artist employed certain cooling methods to transform it into this stunning retro color.
The totally groovy big ashtray in Tangerine Bamboo is not often seen today. Measures 8″ round, 4″ deep and weighs 3 lbs. Has four rests, large hand-tooled V-rests that can handle any size smoke and pipes too.
Made by hand. Blown into mold, then the rim and rests were hand finished. Pontil mark on the center base seat. The amazing color was accomplished by special heating and cooling methods. The layers of colors; deep red, bright deep orange and yellow are from a single pull of glass.
In excellent condition. There are remnants of ash from Blenko’s furnace embedded inside the glass. Often found in Blenko glass, this is considered part of it’s hand-made charm.
