Description
Set of eight rare 1920’s Czech porcelain ashtrays in perfect condition.
Art Deco porcelain marked Union K Made in Czecho-Slovakia. In 1918, the year WWI ended, the Bohemians and Slovaks formed their first Republic and declared independence from the former ruling families. They called the union ‘Czecho-Slovakia’. Since then the region has undergone many troubles and changes and today it is called the Czech Republic.
Each ashtray has a maker’s mark which reads “Union K Made in Czecho-Slovakia”. The mark was used in 1921, just 3 years after the first Republic was formed.
They are made of porcelain and hand-painted in steel blue with black trim. They are over 90 years old and in like-new condition.
Measuring 3″ x 3″, they are perfect size for guests to hold in palm of hand or placed with individual settings at party or game tables. The cradle rests accommodate cigarettes or smaller smokes. The bowl is 1/2 deep.
