Description
Ritz of London Ashtray Made of Royal Doulton Porcelain
This Ritz of London ashtray was obtained from the infamous Ritz restaurant in the early 1980’s. Previous owner said the ashtray on the table caught the vacationing young diner’s eye and she slipped it in her purse. When the check arrived for the meal she found the ashtray cost of 32 pounds (which was a lot back then!) was discreetly added to the bill. So much for thievery!
It’s in great shape with no chips or cracks. The markings are all perfect and bright. The real gold on the rim has worn a little (see images).
In the center of the ash receiver is the Ritz brand mark. It’s a lion holding a religious and/or royalty symbol. This ashtray was never used as an ashtray and the brand is in perfect shape, no fading. The lion was done in gold leaf. The banner below the lion reads: The Ritz of London. The image above of the logo is a bit blurry, but the logo is actually as clear as day.
The base is marked “Made in England, Royal Doulton England Bone China, The Ritz”. The graphic is the Royal Doulton seal. Of course the Ritz would use the finest china for their ashtrays.
Measures 4″ round and 1.5″ tall. Four cigarette or smaller smoke sized rests. Very special ashtray.
