Vintage Spanish brass ashtray box.
Great, useable ashtray in very heavy brass. The top of the box is shovel shaped, the handle is the smoke rest. Will hold cigars and cigarettes.
The box portion of the set is either a cigarette holder, or better yet, a nifty place to dump the ashes. Measures 5″ x 5″ x 2″. Handle rest adds 1.25″. Weighs 2 lbs.
The ashtray interior is coated with a layer of something that protects the brass from getting burn spots. Has a nice soft golden patina. Label on bottom reads “Sarreid, Ltd. 2270/2582”. Limited edition, this is piece number 2270 out of a total of 2582 made. Looks hand-made, probably is.
Sarried Ltd. started in Spain in 1967, offering home decor with “Castillian” influence. Castilian is a noun and adjective that refers to the region and former kingdom of Castile in Spain. Sarried is still in business today, but they no longer offer ashtrays. This ashtray was probably made in the 1970s – 1980s.
