Swedish modern ashtray in Cased Art Glass with Controlled Bubbles

Swedish modern ashtray by Erickson controlled bubble smoke cased glass ashtray. Erickson’s glass making family immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900’s.

In the 1940’s to 1960’s, Erickson Glassworks in Bremen Ohio produced popular hand-formed glass with precision controlled bubbles. Erickson’s fine ‘control’ of the bubbles set him apart from other makers employing the same decor. Notice the expert swirl and graduated size of the bubbles in this ashtray. Erickson Glassworks closed in 1961.

Made with two layers of thick glass. Outer layer is clear. Inner layer is smoke black with controlled bubbles. Measures 6.5″ wide, 2″ tall. Weighs 2½ lbs. Fits cigarettes and cigars.

In near perfect condition. The only sign of age is the naturally occurring ‘bottom-wear’ (tiny scratches on the base) caused by years and years of surface contact. The bottom-wear is confined to the polished flat ring on the base. The pontil scar, left by the separation of the glass artist’s punty rod, is polished to half moon.
