Modernist styled ashtray originally designed in 1926 by Marianne Brandt — the only woman to participate in the metal workshop of the Bauhaus school of art in Germany.

This modern-made ashtray is the same design as the iconic 1926 original version with the exception of porcelain used for the base instead of metal. This ashtray form is a perfect combination of high-design coupled with precise function, the qualities most desired during the Bauhaus movement.

Contemporary ashtray is made by Schonwald, a porcelain maker in the town of Shonwald, Germany. The Schonwald Porcelain company was formed in 1879 and continues to this day. Read more about Shonwald…

According to the Schonwald website this ashtray design plays with the tension between “serve” and “preserve”. “Made of superb quality porcelain and stainless steel formed and joined into a puristic relationship”.

The porcelain ash receiver features a conical ash knocker protruding through the slanted high quality stainless steel lid. The lid and the cone ensure the smoking debris slips down to the center. When the lid is raised, the mess flows down into the hidden deep ash well.

Easy to clean. Made to survive heavy use. Signed Shonwald on the base. Measures 5″ round, 2.5″ tall.

Can be used as an outdoor ashtray, great for swanky parties and weddings. Works for cigars and smaller smokes. Quantities available.
